Stripping back original windows, doors and skirtings is one of the most common tasks in a Footscray renovation — and the one most often started with a power sander on a Saturday morning. If the house dates from before the phase-out of high-lead domestic paint, that is worth pausing over.
Older painted timber may carry lead-based coatings under later layers, so those surfaces should not be attacked as if they were ordinary modern paint. - We're mid-renovation in Footscray — when should the painters come in?
- Usually twice. Once after plastering and before flooring and final fit-off, so walls and ceilings can be done without working around finished surfaces, and again for a touch-up and final coat once trades have finished moving through. Tell us your build schedule and we will slot into it.
- Can you paint over old wallpaper or textured ceilings?
- Sometimes, but not blindly. Loose wallpaper has to come off, and older textured or vermiculite-style ceiling finishes need to be identified before anyone starts sanding them. We check first and tell you honestly whether coating over is a fair outcome or a short-term fix.
